Zamboanga waxes hot in 2nd half to hold off Bacolod

PASIG—Zamboanga caught fire in the second half to clobber Bacolod, 89-77, in their MPBL battle on Wednesday night at the Ynares Sports Arena.

Zamboanga's red-hot finale was a follow-up from its solid second-quarter defense that countered Bacolod's blistering start.

Bacolod, seeking a huge upset, raced to a 27-16 lead at the end of the first period, but Zamboanga held them to just 10 points in the second although Bacolod remained ahead, 37-29, at the half.

Zamboanga completed the turnaround after dropping 32 third-quarter points for a 61-58 lead before pulling away with 28 more in the fourth.

Jaycee Marcelino came close to a triple-double as he led Zamboanga, which moved up to 6-2, with 18 points, eight rebounds, 11 assists, and two steals, while twin brother Jayvee added 13 points, four rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

James Mangahas fired 20 points on five triples, five rebounds, and one assist for Bacolod, which dropped to 3-6.
