MAKATI—Despite a suggestion from Philippine Olympic Committee president Bambol Tolentino to join the Asian Games instead, Caloy Yulo will still join the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships.

Gymnastics president Cynthia Carrion-Norton said that Yulo does not intend to skip the first of three Olympic qualifying tournaments on the road to Paris, which coincides with the upcoming edition of the quadrennial meet.

"Final na final," Norton said.

She explained, "The world championship is more important. We fought for that, we performed in the World Series, and we worked for it. We have to continue with it."

Norton then reiterated that the Asian Games are just a standalone tournament and not an Olympic qualifier.

She then said that she has already informed Tolentino of their final decision.

"Alam na niya. Nag-text ako sa kanya," Norton bared how she relayed their decision to Tolentino.

Yulo will first compete in the Asian championships in Singapore later this month.

He is expected to make the Top 8 in the individual all-around, which will earn them spots in the world championships.
