MANILA—EJ Obiena finally did what might need to be done to get a chance at beating Mondo Duplantis more frequently.

The Filipino pole vaulting sensation finally breached the six-meter mark en route to winning the Bergen Jump Challenge in Norway on Saturday.

Obiena actually ended up tied with American KC Lightfoot in the first place as Lightfoot also reached six meters, but Obiena won the countback as he cleared the height in just one try while Lightfoot needed two.

Both Obiena and Lightfoot still tried to go 6.06, but no one was able to clear the height.

Sam Kendricks sealed the 2-3 finish for the United States as he took the bronze after reaching a high of 5.88 meters.

Obiena became the first Asian pole vaulter to breach six meters and 26th overall.
