MANILA—Jarvey Gayoso won it for the Philippine Azkals as they welcomed back returning coach Michael Weiss and even midfielder Stephan Schrock with a 1-0 victory over Nepal in a FIFA friendly on Thursday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Gayoso converted a Mike Ott corner kick in the 50th minute as he got the ball off a scramble and slotted the close-range shot past Kiran Limbu to the delight of 3,250 fans in attendance.

However, the biggest plot twist of the match was when Schrock, who announced his retirement last January, retracted from it after five months and came on as a mid-second-half substitute.

Patrick Deyto, on the other hand, finished with a clean sheet as he got the start in lieu of Neil Etheridge, who was given a day off and may likely play instead against Chinese Taipei on Monday night.
