PASIG--Kai Sotto was spotted doing some basketball stuff on a Monday night but not with Gilas Pilipinas.
The seven-foot-three beanpole attended the AsiaBasket Las Piñas Championship in his hometown despite an anticipated visit to the Meralco Gym here for the national team practice as supposedly assured by coach Chot Reyes on Friday night.
Eyewitness accounts say Sotto arrived at the Villar Coliseum in Las Piñas at around 8 p.m., just in time for his alma mater Ateneo's game against Perpetual Help.
Former King Alta and current Gilas player Scottie Thompson, along with his wife Jinky, also took time to support the current Perpetual Help squad led by Jielo Razon and revelations Arthur Roque and Cyrus Nitura.
Thompson quickly departed for Las Piñas from here right after Gilas concluded its Monday practice just before 6:30 p.m., which means Sotto could have paid the national team a visit as well even as just an observer, and still have time to watch the AsiaBasket game.
Sotto, who arrived on Wednesday night from Las Vegas following his NBA Summer League stint with the Orlando Magic, watched Gilas' closed-door tune-up game against the Blue Eagles on Thursday at the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center in Quezon City, which the Nationals won, 86-81.
However, he was not present when Gilas went back to practice on Friday and eventually Monday.
