Gilas was just too overpowered for Maldives. FIBA |
MANILA—Gilas Youth's female squad pulled off arguably the biggest win the FIBA U16 Asian Championship has ever seen, ripping Maldives in Division B play, 144-22, on Tuesday at the Prince Hamza Sports Hall in Amman, Jordan.
Gilas showed no mercy on Maldives from the start, imposing a pressure defense that led to 73 turnovers, 47 off steals.
Sophia Canindo accounted for 12 of Gilas' total steals, completing a rare double-double as she also led the team in scoring with 21 points alongside four rebounds, six assists, and one block.
Nevaeh Smith and Aubrey Laparasan each added 16 points, while Ariel De La O finished with a conventional double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds with four assists.
Mariyam Shirhan top-scored for Maldives with 11 points and two rebounds.
