Gilas falls to 8-man Lithuanian squad

MANILA—After back-to-back wins against Ukraine's under-20 squad, Gilas Pilipinas fell prey to a selection of Lithuanian pros through an 80-90 loss in the third game of their tune-up series early Wednesday (Philippine Time) at the Zalgirio Arena in Kaunas, Lithuania.

Despite playing with only eight men, the Lithuanian squad waxed hot to open the game and raced to a 36-19 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Gilas recovered in the second quarter and drew to within 11, 45-56, at halftime, but the Lithuanian selection held Gilas to just 14 points in the third quarter and pulled away from there.

Tomas Zdanavicius led the Lithuanian club with 25 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and one steal, while Vyautas Sulskis added 19 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and one steal.

Justin Brownlee led Gilas with 20 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and four blocks, while Ange Kouame, who went straight to Kaunas after attending Ateneo's graduation rites, put up four points in his first tune-up game on the road to the FIBA World Cup.
