MANILA—Gilas Youth's girls team began their quest for promotion to Division A of the FIBA U16 Women's Asian Championship on a strong note with a 79-40 rout of Hong Kong at the start of their Division B campaign early Tuesday (Philippine Time) at the Prince Hamza Hall in Amman, Jordan.

Gilas Youth pounced on its error-prone opponent, forcing 34 turnovers in total, en route to the wire-to-wire win.

Ava Fajardo, the younger sister of Gilas Women member Ella, led Batang Gilas with 17 points, six rebounds, three assists, and four steals.

Ryan Nair added 12 points, five assists, two steals, and four steals.

Kam Tsz-Ching led Hong Kong with 14 points, four rebounds, one assist, and two steals, while Tai Yan-Ting had 11 points, 10 rebounds, one assist, one block, and one steal.
