MANILA—Converge rode behind the hot hands of Jolo Mendoza to turn back Phoenix, 104-90, in their PBA on Tour battle on Friday night at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Mendoza, one of the players expected to throw their names to the September 17 draft, fired 26 points on 8-for-14 shooting including 7-of-12 on threes to lead the FiberXers.
More importantly, he helped them stay afloat in the first half, where the Fuel Masters relatively had control in the first quarter only to begin losing steam in the second quarter.
Converge eventually pulled away in the fourth quarter, dropping 32 points on Phoenix.
Mendoza also had three assists and one, while his fellow former Ateneo Blue Eagle Mike Nieto added 20 points, nine rebounds, one assist, and two steals for the FiberXers as they impressed against their former high school coach Jamike Jarin.
Alec Stockton finished with a rare rebound-assist double-double of 10 rebounds and 15 assists even as he came too close to a triple-double with nine points alongside three steals and one block.
Sean Manganti made 15 points, eight rebounds, one assist, two steals, and one block for the Fuel Masters.
