Coach Chot Reyes explained why Kai Sotto failed to show up in Gilas practice. From the Orlando Magic's Facebook page |
PASIG--Kai Sotto's supposed return home from his NBA Summer League stint has been pushed back by a few days, according to Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes.
Reyes said on Tuesday night that Sotto is now scheduled to arrive from Las Vegas on Thursday.
The seven-foot-three was initially announced to be heading home on Tuesday after playing for Orlando in the Summer League to quickly join Gilas in training.
"The last we heard is Thursday morning naman daw ang dating," Reyes said after he adjourned the Gilas practice at the Meralco Gym.
He then said that it was according to what national team manager Butch Antonio relayed to him from Sotto's agency group Wasserman.
"Kausap nila si team manager Butch Antonio... sa negotiations with regards to that," Reyes added.
Sotto's status in joining Gilas' practice became questionable when he suffered a back injury during the Magic's Sunday (Philippine Time) game against the Boston Celtics at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Reyes said the previous night that Sotto's injury was not that worrisome at all, but his mere presence in a future Gilas practice does not guarantee that he will quickly jump into active participation.
Despite that, Reyes assured, "He'll be here when he'll be here."
