MANILA--Coach Michael Weiss could be set to mentor Gerrit Holtmann with the Philippine Azkals as the Antalyaspor striker has been included in the national team's preliminary pool for its upcoming September friendlies.

Holtmann, who now plays in the Turkish top flight on loan from his mother club Bochum, headlines a 24-man training roster for the Azkals, who will play two matches next month.

They will first travel to Kaohsiung to face Chinese Taipei in a rematch of their July friendly on Sept. 8 before returning home to take on Afghanistan on Sept. 12. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m. kickoffs.

Also called up to the training camp are Holtmann's fellow forwards OJ Porteria, Patrick Reichelt, Jen Rasmussen, and naturalized player Bienve Maranon.

Also in the initial squad are goalkeepers Neil Etheridge, who will likely be named captain again, Patrick Deyto, and Kevin Hansen, defenders Jesse Curran, Daisuke Sato, Michael Kempter, Santi Rublico, Christian Rontini, Amani Aguinaldo, Carlie De Murga, Joshua Grommen, Kike Linares, and midfielders Patrick Strauss, Kevin Ingreso, Dylan De Bruycker, Manny and Mike Ott, Oskari Kekkonen, and Sandro Reyes.

Jarvey Gayoso is among the notable names not invited to the Azkals' training camp.
