MANILA—Gilas Pilipinas lost for the first time in the Heyuan WUS International Basketball Tournament, bowing to Senegal, 72-64, on Friday night at the Heyuan Sports Gymnasium in Guangzhou.

Despite forcing Senegal to a lot of turnovers, Gilas could not put the game away from the bigger opponents, and the African side even pulled away late to seal the deal.

Senegal, preparing for the FIBA Africa Pre-Olympic Qualifiers, moved up to 2-0 in the tournament, while the FIBA World Cup-bound Gilas team fell to 1-1.

June Mar Fajardo led Gilas with 14 points, while CJ Perez and Dwight Ramos each added 11.

Both teams will face off again on Sunday night.
