SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga--The Pokemon Unite supremacy remains in North America as United States-based Luminosity Gaming ruled the Pokemon Unite World Championship after sweeping Filipino team Odd Man Out, 3-0, in the best-of-five grand finals on Saturday night at the Pacifico Yokohama National Convention Hall.
Luminosity, formerly known as Blackhand, dealt OMO back-to-back heartbreakers in the first two games as fatigue took a toll on the latter after playing five playoff series only minutes apart from each other the entire day.
Luminosity showed their championship pedigree late into the first two games, particularly during the Rayquaza battle, eventually taking down the quest Pokemon on both occasions to pull away from the tight contests.
OMO experimented with something in their elimination game by going for Talonflame in the draft, but the plan backfired as Luminosity easily manhandled OMO early on and clinched the tie by a blowout.
Luminosity won US$100,000 (around PHP5.6 million) for ruling the event, while OMO settled for the US$75,000 (around PHP4.2 million) runner-up prize.
