MANILA—Rain Or Shine suffered a stinging defeat on Monday as its struggles in the Jones Cup continued with a 73-71 stunner by the United Arab Emirates at the Taipei Heiping Basketball Gym.

Rashed Alzaabi and Hamid Albreiki caught fire late from three-point range as they connived to lead UAE's comeback against Rain Or Shine, which became error-prone in the endgame, and UAE took a 72-69 advantage.

Nick Demusis converted two free throws to keep ROS in the game, but they failed to get a chance to regain the lead as Terry Thomas, who missed two charities of his own in the next play, grabbed his own rebound.

Albreiki split his free throws in the ensuing possession even as ROS could not convert in the final play, letting UAE escape.

Albreiki finished with 22 points, three rebounds, three assists, and six steals for UAE, which scored its first win of the tournament, while Omar Al-Shabebi added 11 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and three steals.

Demusis and Nick Evans each scored 12 markers for ROS, which fell to 0-3.
