PASAY--Latvia ended its campaign in the FIBA World Cup with a huge bang after clobbering Lithuania, 98-63, in their battle for fifth on Saturday night in front of 9,440 fans at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Latvia quickly exerted its might against Lithuania by racing to a 28-20 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the dagger came in the third, when Latvia outscored Lithuania, 28-9, to pull away for good.
Arturs Kurucs led Latvia with 20 points, four rebounds, two assists, and one steal, while Rolands Smits added 17 points, six rebounds, and two assists.
Arturs Zagars set the FIBA World Cup record for the most assists dished in a single game as he finished with 17 dimes alongside four points, five rebounds, and one steal.
Rokas Jokubaitis made 16 points, two rebounds, and one assist for Lithuania, which settled for sixth place.
