CEBU CITY—Team Taguig manager Ethan Lee jokingly said during the press launches of the AIA Vitality 7s Kampeon Cup in Makati and Talisay City that now that Team Cebu has home field edge in this year's edition, Taguig can finally reverse its fortunes after ending up as bridesmaids against Cebu in both the two previous events in Taguig and Bacolod.
On Saturday night, though, it did happen.
A new Kampeon Cup winner will be crowned as Taguig took the crown off Cebu with a 3-2 win in the semifinals at the Dynamic Herb Borromeo Sports Complex in Talisay City.
The new comeback period favored Taguig as they scored the needed goals to steal the win from Cebu.
Down 2-1 after the two regulation halves, Taguig began its extra time spectacle with a right-wing goal from Jesus Pacheco to tie the match, which became 6-on-6 at this point.
Now down to a 5-on-5, Dean Ebarle won it for Taguig with a long-range effort of his own from the middle.
Taguig takes on Iloilo, a 2-1 winner over Pampanga in the other semifinal, in the championship match on Sunday.
