MANILA - GameLab endures a tough Game 1 defeat as they beaten a resurging AP.Bren Hornets, two games to one, to end their Week 2 campaign of MLBB Developmental League - Philippines (MDL-PH) Season 2 on Thursday.
While the Hornets did not made any changes in their lineup, GameLab got themselves a needed boost with Jan Bradford "XBOCT" Amande returning to the main five after a successful stint with the SIBOL National Team in IESF World Championships in Romania.
The Hornets gave XBOCT a warm welcome with a 51-minute thriller which saw them contest for eight total lords and almost all but one Hornets turrets in the top lane falling down.
A crucial set from Game MVP Robin "Yobabz" Benedicto's Khufra spelled GG for GameLab as he caught jungler Vincent Brian "Takenaga" Montilla that saw the rest of GameLab members falling one by one.
Yobabz' Khufra's 3/1/14 masterclass helped the Hornets to seal the deal, while Tommy "Kingfrenzy" Tolentino's Fredrinn contributed two kills and 16 assists in the longest game in MDL-PH history, breaking the previous record last August 29 in the second game of AP.Bren and MHRLK Esports.
GameLab came back in the second game with a more convincing 17-6 outing against AP.Bren which saw them control the map from the get-go.
It was another Khufra who was named the Game MVP but it was with Steve Nash "Steve" Calunuran's hands with two kills and five assists, while Jermaine "Aizawa" Fernandez's Pharsa contributed five kills and six assists.
From there, GameLab held on their momentum as they have another dominant Game 3 to win the series, 12 kills to just three, which capped on a backdoor play completed courtesy of Takenaga's Lancelot taking the chance on a 4-against-5 encounter by the teams.
Takenaga's 2/0/8 performance with the Lancelot was enough to get him the MVP nod while Steve's Khufra did not fall a single time while contributing eight assists.
GameLab will try to make it two in a row against ONIC Arsenals on September 12, while the Hornets will try to get their first win against undefeated Smart Omega NEOS on Friday.
