MANILA - Dynamic Herb Cebu's Copa Paulino Alcantara quest turns into a goal fest in their favor as they drub Mendiola FC four goals to one Monday inside the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Two goals from Turkish forward Arda Çınkır and a goal each from Japanese duo Rintaro Hama and Ryoo Togashi provided the goods for the Gentle Giants, while John Marquez scored the only goal for the Valiant Boys.
A Marius Kore pass to JB Borlongan started the Cebu onslaught, with the Cagayan de Oro native seeing Hama beating the offside trap and slotting a tap-in past Marc Pellejo's guard.
Hama was down in the 27th minute but has give the ball to a striking Papu Corsame who finds Togashi for a quick finish past two Mendiola defenders to give the Talisay City-based club a 2-0 lead at half time.
Borlongan opened again another opportunity in the 71th minute, this time finding Çınkır, who was playing a false nine, and slotted the ball against a rather unaware Pelleja to put the lead to 3-0.
Marquez meanwhile capitalized on a much laxed Cebu defense in the 880th minute as he beat three guys from half of the pitch plus keeper Ace Villanueva's guard to give Mendiola a consolation goal, but a Borlongan to Baris Tasci pass was the icing on the cake as Baris saw the Turkish forward coming in for the go-ahead goal in the 89th minute.
The Cebu FC midfielder meanwhile was awarded the man of the match award with two assists to his name.
With the win, Cebu moves to the semifinals of the Copa after winning the tie on a 6-1 aggregate as they will meet Davao Aguilas in a two-leg tie on October 19th.
