ISAA Season 15 hoops: Blue Royals, Golden Lions sustain winning runs; Blue Hawks, Pikemen recover

MANILA – La Consolacion College- Manila and Treston International College notched their second straight wins against separate opponents in Day 2 of basketball action of the Inter-Scholastic Athletic Association (ISAA) Season 15 at the LCCM Gym in Mendiola here Saturday.

The defending three-time champs Blue Royals pulled away with a 19-5 fourth-quarter run to make mincemeat of Philippine Women’s University, 84-64, for a 2-0 start so far in the tournament.  

Christian Alonzo continued his high-scoring exploits for the boys of Coach Kenyon Chee with 18 points while reigning MVP JM Urmeneta got 14 off the bench. Carl Villapana provided the added spark with 11 markers and four boards.

PWU suffered its second setback in as many games. Daniel Santelices and John Matthew Espiritu churned in 18 and 17 points in that order for the Patriots.

Treston then came to life in the second quarter behind their torrid three-point shooting to issue an 89-71 spanking on the University of Asia and the Pacific and likewise share a taste of the lead with a 2-0 slate.

Rasheen Jose once again led the Golden Lions attack with 20 points, seven rebounds, and five assists as the Taguig-based squad fired 11 triples and led by as many as 27 points in the second half.

Federico Yanos added 12 markers on 5-of-10 shooting for Treston.    

Michael Delos Santos paced UA&P, now at 0-2, with 20 points, while spitfire guard Travis Batino had 19.

Meanwhile, the Immaculada Concepcion College and Saint Dominic College of Asia recovered from opening-day losses to pummel their rivals.

The Pikemen limited the Skyhawks to just five points in the final quarter while banking on their balanced scoring output to score a 77-68 victory for their maiden win in their comeback season.

Edward Daquioag led four other SDCA players in double figures with 19 points and five rebounds, with Sean Andrew Azurin and Adrian German cashing in 15 and 12 markers, respectively.

Ivan Salinel’s game-best 24-point output went for naught as the Skyhawks fell to an even 1-1 slate.   

ICC, on the other hand, bounced back in a big way, venting its ire on the PATTS Seahorses, 84-72. AJ Flores flirted with a triple-double with 23 points, nine rebounds, and six assists as the Blue Hawks shrugged off its tough loss against LCCM on Thursday.

Mark Jayson Morada pumped 19 points and Aldrich Lopez 16, but it wasn’t enough as the Seahorses tied their conquerors at 1-1.  

In the juniors division, ICC avoided the gritty fourth-quarter stance by Treston with a 82-75 win. John Lester Castillo issued an across-the-board performance with 24 points, six rebounds, five steals, three assists, and a block as the Baby Blue Hawks fended off a furious endgame run by the Golden Cubs.

The league will take a one-week break and will resume on November 6 at the Treston College gym.
