MANILA—John Riel Casimero's showdown against Japanese opponent Yukinori Oguni ended in anti-climactic fashion as they both settled for a technical draw on Thursday night at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo.
Casimero and Oguni accidentally headbutted each other early into the fourth round, which caused a deep cut near the latter's right eyebrow.
With Oguni still too bloodied and could not continue, the referee called off the bout, and with the accidental headbutt happening before Round 4 ended, a technical draw had to be called.
This is Casimero's first stalemate in his stellar career against 33 wins and four defeats, while Oguni now holds a 21-2-3 record.
