CALOOCAN—Kyt Jimenez will honor the remainder of his ongoing contract with GenSan in the MPBL before finally suiting up for San Miguel in the PBA.
In a statement on Friday night on his Facebook page, Jimenez said that the practice is also being done by other players who were drafted to the PBA but are also in the ongoing MPBL Playoffs.
"Kagaya ng lahat ng active MPBL player na drafted at nakapagpirma din sa kanilang respective PBA teams, ngayong ongoing pa ang season at nakapasok sa latest round ng playoffs ng MPBL, ay tatapusin po namin ang season bago kami magkaron ng possibility na makapaglaro sa PBA," Jimenez said.
Jimenez, the Beermen's ninth round in the recent draft, signed a two-year contract with them, but the Warriors challenged it and said his contract with them would last until the end of the year.
SMB actually kept a roster spot open as of Tuesday upon the reveal of its PBA Commissioner's Cup lineup during the preseason press conference, but following the signing of Jeron Teng, the team is now complete for the season-opening conference starting on Nov. 5.
"Di man tayo nasa line up agad agad, ay [hindi] ibig sabihin na di na natupad pangarap natin. May oras pa tayo para trabauhin at paghandaan yun! Step by step process lahat to. 'God's timing, not ours,'" Jimenez continued.
He added, "Proud ako at karangalan maging part ng SMB at ng GenSan Warriors! Parehong malakas at respetado na team."
The statement also hinted that Jimenez, who sat out Game 2 of the MPBL South Division first-round series between GenSan and Muntinlupa, might see action in the rubber match on Tuesday night.
"Suportahan natin ang SMB ngayon parating season at syempre suportahan nyo kaming Team GenSan na may do or die game sa Tuesday!" Jimenez concluded.
Game 3 between the Warriors and Cagers is set for Tuesday night.
