Orlan Wamar waxed hot from deep. MPBL |
MANILA--San Juan proved that it remains a contender for the MPBL title even if it fell to the sixth seed in the North Division Playoffs after taking down third-seeded Makati, 95-84, in Game 1 of their first-round series on Monday night at the Nueva Ecija Coliseum in Palayan.
The defense set the tone for the Knights in the first half as they held the Kings to just 31 points in the first 20 minutes before winning a scoring spree in the third quarter where they dropped 34 points.
Orlan Wamar led San Juan with 23 points on 7-for-13 field goals including 5-of-9 on threes, four rebounds, and five assists, while Nico Panganiban added 17 points on 8-for-10 shooting, five rebounds, and three assists.
Keith Agovida led Makati, which can bounce back in Game 2 next Monday at its home, the Makati Coliseum, with 19 points, eight rebounds, and one steal.
