La Consolacion College- Manila stayed undefeated while Immaculada Concepcion College played the spoilers’ role to highlight Wednesday action of Season 15 of the Inter-Scholastic Athletic Association (ISAA) basketball tournament at the LCCM gym in Manila.
The Blue Royals yet again jumped the gun right from tip-off to
carve out a 69-58 win over PATTS College of Aeronautics to notch its third win
in as many games in the tournament.
Christian Alonzo once again was the spark the home team
needed, leading the Blue Royal attack with 17 points and five steals despite
shooting just 29% (7-of-24) from the field. Eyle Cordaño added 16 markers and three
assists, while JM Urmeneta recorded a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double.
Aldrich Lopez and Joshua Bongon contributed 18 and 16 points,
respectively, for the Seahorses, which stumbled to a 1-2 record with
consecutive losses.
The Blue Hawks, meanwhile, have to withstand a gritty stand
by the Golden Lions to pull off a nail-biting 59-58 win for its third win in a
row and tie their victims for a share of second place in the standings at 3-1.
AJ Flores topscored for the current NCRAA champions with 22
points and four assists, his floater in the final 40 seconds of the match
providing the needed cushion to take the fight out of their Taguig-based
rivals.
Eugene Tan led Treston with 14 points while Rasheen Jose added
11. The latter even had the chance to win it for the Golden Lions with only
eight seconds remaining, but his jumper only hit the rim.
In an earlier seniors game, WCC-ATC finally ended their
two-game slide with a 95-86 win over the AirLink Blazing Phoenix. Ivan Salinel
recovered from an uncharacteristic performance the last time out, dishing out a
game-high 26 points, four rebounds, and three assists on 10-of-16 field goal
shooting.
Sebastian Dominic Santiago’s 22-point outburst hardly
mattered as the season hosts ALIAC have now lost back-to-back games to fall to
1-2.
In the juniors match-up, defending champs LCCM were tested
for the first time this season, but recovered in time to hack out a narrow
82-79 success over the ICC Baby Blue Hawks.
Marcus Saad finished with 11 points for the Baby Blue Royals,
which foiled the 21-point explosion of ICC main man John Morales.
Action now shifts to the Trinity University of Asia gym in
Quezon City on Saturday with a five-game offering, highlighted by the finals
rematch between LCCM and ICCT Colleges at 12:30 pm.
