Treston International College continued its brilliant form
in the Inter-Scholastic Athletic Association (ISAA) Season 15 seniors
basketball tournament after posting a 79-74 win over the WCC Aeronautical and
Technological College for its third win in a row in the resumption of action Monday
at the Treston gymnasium in Taguig City.
Rasheen Jose led three other Golden Lions in double-figure
scoring with 17 points, five rebounds, and three steals. The Taguig-based
ballclub was hardly challenged against their counterparts from North Caloocan.
John Mark Sicat churning out a double-double of 14 and 11 boards
for Treston, while Federico Yanos and Eugene Tan cashed in 13 and 10 points,
respectively.
Ralph De Guzman cashed in 14 points for the Skyhawks (now
1-2), which got only 10 from both Ivan Salinel and Cly Salvio.
Immaculada Concepcion College then won its second
consecutive match with a 58-48 victory over Saint Dominic College of Asia Pikemen.
Brent Paccarangan went to life in this ballgame, leading the
way with a near double-double of 13 points and six rebounds as the Blue Hawks cruised
to their second win in three outings.
Sean Azurin paced SDCA, now at 1-2, with 13 points and Roel
Busante added 10. Edward Daquiaog struggled all game with just seven markers
on a measly 3-of-10 field goal outing.
Meanwhile, Philippine Women’s University and ICCT Colleges
arrested their respective losing skids with contrasting wins in the nightcap.
The Patriots surged late to repulse the ALIAC Blazing
Phoenix, 81-69, enough to snap its two-game skein.
Jacob Danganan scored 19 points while Karl Andrei Mangupag registered
14 for PWU, which broke a 67-all deadlock with a 14-2 closing salvo in the
final 2:30 of the game.
Jovi Manlapig and Gabby Faisan combined for 34 of ALIAC’s total
points, but their efforts went up in smoke as the Season 15 hosts dropped to an
even 1-1 card.
ICCT then banked on its stifling defense to annihilate the University
of Asia and the Pacific, 98-58, to likewise bounce back in the competition
after the loss to Treston on opening day.
The Blue Dragons turned their full-court trap to fruition,
forcing the Dragons to commit 25 turnovers while shooting just 24-of-58
(41.37%) from the field.
Veterans Jun Reign Baculio and Noy Arimado each tallied 16
points for the Cainta-based team, but it was rookie Jervin Martinez who
provided the spark off the bench with 13 markers to go along with five
rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block.
Spitfire guard Travis Batino led the way for UA&P, which
now dropped to 0-3, with a game-high 22 points, while Val Mercado issued 13 and
seven rebounds.
In the juniors division, ALIAC inflicted Treston its second
consecutive defeat with a 72-60 victory. The scoring troika of Paul Resera,
Gerlis Bulilan, and Jared Manalac accounted for 39 points altogether.
Action will return to the la Consolacion College gym in
Mendiola on Wednesday. In the curtain-raiser at 9:30am, ALIAC (1-1) and WCC-ATC
(1-2) hope to recover from their respective slumps when they face each other in
what promises to be an epic aerial battle.
The four-peat-seeking LCCM Blue Royals shoots for a third
straight win as it tackles a PATTS Seahorses (1-1) squad coming off a long
break at 11am, followed by the match-up between Treston and ICC at 12:30pm.
And for the juniors division, the eagerly-anticipated match
between three-time defending champs LCCM (1-0) and ICC (1-0) will happen at
2pm, with the winner gaining the top spot in the tournament.
