MANILA—Phoenix took control of the fourth quarter to keep Blackwater at bay for a 111-106 win in their PBA Commissioner's Cup game on Friday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
After the Bossing got to tie the game right in the opening play of the final period, it was virtually all Fuel Masters from there as they retook the lead for good with an RJ Jazul three in the next offensive even as Ricci Rivero's three-point play with 4:21 left gave them the comfortable eight-point margin to hold on.
Jason Perkins led Phoenix, which moved up to second place at 3-1, with 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Johnathan Williams added 21 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists, and two steals, while Jazul went 5-for-5 from the field including 4-for-4 on threes and 5-for-5 as well from the free throw line for 19 points with three rebounds and two assists off the bench.
Chris Ortiz fired 35 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists to lead Blackwater, who lost for the third straight time after its season-opening win against Converge, falling to 1-3.
