QUEZON CITY—NorthPort team manager Pido Jarencio was sanctioned for lashing out some choice words at now-former NLEX import Thomas Robinson right after their heated game last week.
PBA commissioner Willie Marcial announced on Wednesday night in between the scheduled doubleheader at the Smart Araneta Coliseum that Jarencio will be playing PHP20,000 for the verbal tirade in which he was heard threatening Robinson, "You're one bullet! I will shoot you. Happy New Year."
Marcial handed the decision after he summoned Jarencio to his office on Thursday to explain why he did that.
Marcial said that Jarencio apologized for his actions.
However, what kept the decision from being handed quickly according to Marcial was that Robinson, who was also supposed to be summoned as well, quickly left for Palawan for a vacation.
The Road Warriors, though, did not like Robinson's decision to go on an "unplanned vacation" and replaced him with Stokley Chaffee.
Marcial decided not to summon Robinson anymore following the import change and handed the penalty to be given to Jarencio.
While Jarencio was spared from a suspension, Marcial said a repeat offense could warrant him such a penalty or at least a heftier fine.
