BIÑAN—Converge finally broke its slump in the PBA Commissioner's Cup after beating Terrafirma in overtime, 103-94, on Wednesday night at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
The FiberXers, who were once the hottest team in the middle of last year's edition but suddenly began the conference 0-6, pulled away in the final 3:34 of the extension to take down the now-reeling Dyip.
After Juami Tiongson gave Terrafirma its last taste of the lead with his layup to open overtime, Converge went on an 11-0 run to take a 99-90 lead with 1:42 remaining.
The FiberXers hung on from there as they atoned for a missed chance to win it in regulation on Mike Nieto's missed buzzer-beater.
Jamil Wilson led Converge, now tied with Blackwater at 1-6, with 32 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and one steal.
Schonny Winston played his best game so far in his rookie campaign in the pros with 17 points, six rebounds, and one steal off the bench.
Tiongson led Terrafirma, which dropped to 2-5 with its fourth straight loss, with 28 points, five rebounds, one assist, and two steals.
Javi Gomez De Liano added 13 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, and one steal off the bench, while Thomas De Thaey had 12 points, 19 rebounds, and one steal.
