MANILA--Basketball dominated the most searched sports topics list by Google Philippines for 2023.
Google Philippines revealed in its yearend report on Tuesday night that the entire Top 10 list for the "Top Trending Searches" for sports is all about hoops.
The FIBA World Cup, which the Philippines co-hosted with Japan and Indonesia, made it to the third spot in terms of the most Google Philippines queries.
On the other hand, everything about last year's PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals between Ginebra and Bay Area, particularly the keyword "Ginebra vs Bay Area", was at number 10.
Both events made history as Gilas Pilipinas' FIBA World Cup opener against the Dominican Republic on Aug. 25 set the new tournament record for the most-watched game with 38,115 fans flocking to the Philippine Arena in Bocaue.
Meanwhile, Game 7 between the Gin Kings and the Dragons drew 54,589 fans also at the Philippine Arena for the most-watched Philippine basketball game ever.
NBA-related searches dominated the list with "Lakers vs Warriors" at number one.
The keyword probably reached its peak popularity when the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors faced off in a highly-anticipated NBA Western Conference Semifinals series won by the Lakers.
Queries about the NBA Finals between the Denver Nuggets and the Miami Heat ranked fourth on the list, while "Lakers vs Nuggets", which was probably at a high when they faced off in the West Finals, was at number two.
Meanwhile, NBA star Kyle Kuzma and NFL superstar Travis Kelce were among the top-searched male personalities by Google Philippines.
Kuzma is at number eight, while Kelce, who trended mainly due to his relationship with Taylor Swift, is at number five.
