QUEZON CITY—Magnolia assured itself a Top 4 finish in the PBA Commissioner's Cup eliminations after stifling Converge, 88-80, on Saturday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Just when the FiberXers looked poised for a huge upset to keep what is left of their playoff hopes, the Hotshots outscored them, 28-18, in the fourth quarter to seal the low-scoring win that gave the Purefoods franchise a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals this January.
Tyler Bey led Magnolia, now 9-1 in the standings ahead of their Christmas break, with 27 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, and one block.
Jio Jalalon added 16 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Jamil Wilson had 19 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists for Converge, which was officially eliminated from quarterfinal contention after joining Blackwater at the bottom anew at 1-8.
