MANILA--Former NBA superstar Dwight Howard will headline Strong Group's campaign in this year's Dubai International Basketball Championship.

The Athletic's Shams Charania reported on Tuesday that the Frank Lao-owned club signed Howard to join them for the tournament that will run from Jan. 19-28.

Charania said that the 38-year-old Howard looks to make the most out of his stint with Strong Group "in the midst of pursuing an NBA comeback."

Charania added, "The eight-time All-Star and three-time Defensive Player of the Year continues his basketball career with this deal, allowing him to stay in shape."

Howard last played for the Taoyuan Leopards in the T1 League last season, but despite all the hype, the team crashed to the bottom of the team standings at the end of the season.

Howard, who won the 2020 NBA title with the Los Angeles Lakers, tried out for the Golden State Warriors during their training camp right after his Taiwanese league stint ended but was not eventually given a contract.

Howard's last chance for NBA glory now begins with a stint in Dubai.

Strong Group's entire team for the Dubai International Basketball Championship will be unveiled later this month.
