Immaculada Concepcion College made quick work on La Consolacion
College-Manila all throughout the game for a comprehensive 25-8, 25-15, 25-18 win to
secure the women’s championship in Game 2 of the Inter-Scholastic Athletic
Association (ISAA) Season 15 volleyball tournament finals at the PATTS College
of Aeronautics gym in Parañaque City Wednesday.
Dominant right from the get-go, the Lady Blue Hawks revolved
around setter Charlotte Tutanes while pulling off solid numbers from virtually
everybody enough to complete a 2-0 sweep in the best-of-three series.
The Edgar Barroga-mentored squad also finished the season
unbeaten for nine straight games including the playoffs for the title, its second regular season chip since joining the ISAA in 2018.
Ma. Venice Pagayanan and Jem San Juan came off the bench to
score 10 points apiece, even as Ednelle Jayne Maniquis had nine as eight other ICC
players produced to outscore LCCM 47-16 on attack points.
Team captain Tutanes was instrumental in the championship
run, thus being named the Finals Most Valuable Player, putting up double
digits in excellent sets in the series.
Akisha Saberon led LCCM with six points, all on attacks, as the Lady Royals finished as runner-up in its first-ever venture in the league. After finishing third in the elimination round, the girls from Mendiola upset the twice-to-beat ICCT Colleges in the semifinals to earn a finals berth.
Meanwhile, PATTS recovered from a set down with a brilliant showing at both ends to hammer out a 22-25, 25-7, 25-20, 25-17 victory over Philippine Women’s University in Game 2 of the men’s finals.
Still reeling from its shocking five-set Game 1 loss on Monday,
the Seahorses survived a rough first set while pouncing on the Patriots’ offensive
woes in the next three frames to set up a winner-take-all Game 3 on Friday still
at their own backyard.
Towering figure Kristofer Alejos led the PATTS offensive
with a game-best 13 points spiked on 10 hits and three blocks while Joshua
Oribello and Geisehler Panaligan both chipped in 12 while combining for five of
the team’s total blocks in the game.
PATTS outscored PWU, 43-32, on attacks, to go along with five service
aces. They also took advantage of their opponent’s 40 unforced errors, while blocking
PWU attempts nine times.
Rammel Valenciano was the only double-digit scorer for PWU with 10 points, including six attacks, two blocks, and two service aces. Ken Emman Ikalina, the hero of Game 1, struggled all game to only score nine on eight kills.

SKYHAWKS, LADY BLUE DRAGONS SNAG BRONZE MEDAL FINISHES
In other games, WCC-ATC and ICCT Colleges warded off their opponents to salvage third place in their respective divisions.
The Skyhawks rallied from a 0-2 set deficit to shock the Treston Golden Lions in a five-set thriller, 25-27, 21-25, 25-21, 27-25, 15-11 for the men’s bronze medal, the team’s second straight podium finish in as many years after its second-place finish last season.
ICCT likewise made it back-to-back podium finishes, needing four sets to overcome the WCC-ATC Lady Skyhawks, 27-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-20, in the women's division battle for third. Playing with its second unit after injuries to its key personnel, the Lady Blue Dragons survived several fightbacks by their North Caloocan rivals in the last two sets for the victory, a follow-up to their silver medal campaign in Season 14.
