NorthPort clinches spot in PBA Comm's Cup QFs with rout of Blackwater

QUEZON CITY—NorthPort booked its place in the PBA Commissioner's Cup quarterfinals after whipping also-ran Blackwater, 106-89, on Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

In the first PBA game for 2024, the Batang Pier slowly picked up the pace on offense as the game went on and dropped 39 points on the Bossing in the third quarter to pull away for good.

Joshua Munzon led NorthPort, which moved up to 6-4, with 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting, four rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

Venky Jois added 19 points, 20 rebounds, seven assists, three blocks, and two steals.

The team can still clinch a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals if it beats Ginebra on Sunday night also at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Rey Suerte put up 20 points, four rebounds, and one steal, while Christian David added 17 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, and one block and Chris Ortiz had 14 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, one block, and one steal for Blackwater, which fell to 1-9.
