QUEZON CITY--Rain Or Shine spoiled a 50-point blast from debuting Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson and took down TNT, 119-112, in a crucial PBA Commissioner's Cup game on Friday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
With huge playoff implications at stake, both teams engaged in a high-scoring affair in the first half, which ended with the Elasto Painters leading, 66-62.
The Tropang Giga turned to their defense in the third quarter and held the Elasto Painters to just 23 points even as the former took a 91-89 lead heading to the fourth.
ROS went on an 11-0 run early in the fourth quarter to reclaim the lead, 103-94, with 6:09 to play, but TNT responded with a 12-1 run of their own to go back on top, 106-104, with 3:49 left.
The Elasto Painters stole the game for good after mounting another 11-0 run for a 115-106 cushion with 49 seconds to go.
Things got heated at the said timestamp, though, when Rondae Hollis-Jefferson suddenly went to the ROS bench and uttered some words before cooler heads, including the arena security, restrained him.
Tree Treadwell made 25 points, 24 rebounds, and four assists to lead the Elasto Painters, who moved up to 5-5 in the team standings.
Andrei Caracut added 23 points, two rebounds, and four assists off the bench.
Gabe Norwood, on the other hand, set a personal milestone as he breached the 5,000 career points mark with two free throws in the first quarter.
Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson fired 21-of-44 from the field for his 50-piece, and he too had 16 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block, but TNT still fell to 4-6.
Calvin Oftana added a career-high 37 points on 13-of-26 field goals including 5-of-11 from beyond the arc, four rebounds, and one assist.
