PASAY—Rain Or Shine got a huge boost ahead of the PBA Commissioner's Cup quarterfinals after edging Converge, 112-111, in their last elimination round game on Sunday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
The Elasto Painters heaved a sigh of relief as the FiberXers' last ditch in the last two minutes fell short as they finished the eliminations with six straight wins.
ROS was up, 109-102, at the two-minute warning, but a split from JL Delos Santos and five straight points from King Caralipio drew Converge to within one, 108-109, with 1:27 left.
The FiberXers had a chance to retake the lead, but Jamil Wilson missed a pick-and-pop three and Tree Treadwell converted a floater to give the Elasto Painters a 111-108 cushion with 35 seconds left.
Bryan Santos missed on a quick three-pointer off a timeout, but Converge had another chance to tie the game after they forced Keith Datu to a turnover at the baseline.
However, Delos Santos missed his three-point attempt, and Gabe Norwood gave ROS some cushion after splitting his free throws with 12 seconds left.
Caralipio kept the FiberXers in the game with a corner three with 5.2 seconds left even as Delos Santos stole Norwood's inbound pass off a timeout.
However, Caralipio failed to launch his supposed game-winner in time, letting the Elasto Painters escape.
Treadwell finished with 21 points, 17 rebounds, and eight assists to lead ROS, which will either face Phoenix or San Miguel in the quarterfinals depending on the result of the Fuel Masters' game against TNT later Sunday.
Beau Belga added 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting including a perfect 4-for-4 on twos, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Wilson finished with 21 points, 13 rebounds, nine assists, three blocks, and one steal for Converge, which will finish the conference in last place at 1-10.
Caralipio went perfect 7-for-7 from the field for 16 points with three rebounds and one assist.
