8 new players added to boost Filipinas' campaign in Pinatar Cup

MANILA--The Filipinas get set for the start of their 2024 campaign by naming their 27-man squad to represent the national team for the upcoming Pinatar Cup starting Feb. 21 in Spain. 

The second appearance of the Filipinas, ranked 24th in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup will see them face Finland, their familiar foe Scotland on Feb. 24, and either a showdown against Slovenia or a rematch against Finland on Feb. 27. 

Through their latest post on the Official Facebook page of the Philippine Women's National Football, uploaded this Wednesday afternoon, 27 players were called including eight new players. 

Leah Bradley and Nina Meollo will join Olivia McDaniel as the goalkeeper while Alexa Pino and Isabella Bandoja are listed in the attacking position with Dionesa Tolentin, Isabella Flanigan, Sarina Bolden, and Chandler McDaniels. 

Camille Sahirul will be together with Tahnai Annis, Sara Eggesvik, Jessica Miclat, Isabella Pasion, Quinlet Quezada, Jaclyn Sawicki, and Meryll Serano as midfielders. 

Lastly, Rhea Chan, Katana Norman, and Aiselyn Sia will be with Maya Alcantara, Angela Beard, Reina Bonta, Jessika Cowart, Sofia Harrison, and Hali Long are charged to do defensive assignments. 

The Filipinas, ranked 38th in the world, will try to beat their last year's run of being last place in the said four-game format tournament to be held in Pinatar Arena, San Pedro Del Pinatar, Spain.
