QUEZON CITY—Tyler Bey insisted that the results of the PBA Commissioner's Cup individual awards were not on top of his mind when he played masterfully in Game 4 of the conference finals on Friday night.
Hours after it was announced that Johnathan Williams won the Best Import of the Conference plum to the surprise of virtually everyone inside the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Bey put up an impressive performance for Magnolia while holding San Miguel's Bennie Boatwright to a conference low.
However, Bey said after the Hotshots' 96-85 win that it was just his desire to win that motivated him to push hard, all the more that they entered the game still down, 2-1, in the best-of-seven series.
"I wasn't even thinking about the Best Import award. I mean if I got it, it would've been cool and a blessing, but for me, I just want to win," Bey said.
He also said that before Game 3, he discussed being lion-hearted, and indeed, Magnolia showed the heart of the lion in the past two games, holding SMB to just at most 85 points after letting them score more than 100 in the first two games.
Despite that, Bey further reiterated that the Hotshots just tied the series and said that they need to step up their game even further in the pivotal Game 5 on Sunday night back at "The Big Dome".
"Next game, we gotta step up even better because it's Game 5, so I'm just ready to face that challenge each and every game," Bey further said.
