LAPU-LAPU CITY, CEBU—The Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters survived a feisty effort from the New Taipei Kings for a 78-76 win to claim the East Asia Super League’s third place on Sunday night at the Hoops Come here.
The Korean side overcame the team from Taiwan despite playing without Filipino import and fan favorite Rhenz Abando, who was not feeling well.
The Kings were also without former NBA player Jeremy Lin who was still nursing an injury to his ankle.
Without Abando, the Red Boosters turned to Jihoon Park, who poured in 29 points on a hot 70% shooting while American import Robert Carter Jr. added 18 points and 15 rebounds.
On the other hand, the Kings once again leaned on Jeremy Lin’s brother Joseph to handle the scoring load. However, the younger Lin struggled all throughout the game with Anyang’s defense keened on stopping him. He only finished with 6 points on 2/9 shooting and committed a crucial turnover in the dying seconds of the game, failing to catch a bounce pass from his teammate.
American import Kenneth Manigault led the way for the Kings with 18 points with New Taipei failing to win a game here, finishing 4th place.
With their third place finish, Anyang also claims the US$250,000 prize.
