MAKATI - ONIC Philippines takes their first win of MPL Philippines Season 13 as they pulled a 2-0 sweep against RSG Philippines to end their Week 1 campaign.
It was a bounce-back victory for Coach Anthony "Ynot" Senedrin-led squad, who suffered a 0-2 sweep against ECHO last Saturday
RSG Philippines meanwhile fielded a different lineup, putting Nathanael "Nathzz" Estrologo and Patrick "rTzy" Lim in place of Jhondy "Nibor" Ranque and Arvie "Aqua" Antonio.
ONIC went to a 10-2 snowball in Game 1, with Duane "Kelra" Pillas's Karrie putting up a show with five kills and four assists, while Jomearie "Escalera" delos Santos's Mathilda contributed to all but one kill for the Sonics with two kills and seven assists.
Coach Ynot pulled off a trump card by giving Luo Yi to Frince "Super Frince" Ramirez alongside a roamer Arlott to Escalera, while RSG opted for a more durable lineup with Paquito, Ruby, and Barats.
It was the first time Luo Yi was picked in MPL Philippines since Season 8 when former Omega and current ONIC PH assistant coach Patrick "E2MAX" Caidic played it four times.
The "magic bunot" produced wonders for ONIC as Super Frince and Escalera combined for five kills and 20 assists, with their superior map presence giving RSG problems despite having a Novaria in their lineup.
RSG did not get a single major objective, with the Sonics getting all three turtles and two lords, while getting all nine RSG turrets in 15 minutes.
Both teams ended their Week 1 campaign in 1-1, with ONIC's win putting them above on head-to-head tiebreaker.
ONIC will see Smart Omega, starting the league's Week 2 campaign on Friday, while RSG will see ECHO closing the Friday games.
