TAGUIG—NorthPort showed its prowess in lockdown defense and held off Meralco, 90-85, in their PBA Philippine Cup game on Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

The Batang Pier made a conscious effort to stop the Bolts' offensive as quick as possible, leading to 18 steals, six from Cade Flores.

However, none was more important than Flores' floater with three seconds left that iced the game after Meralco still had one last gasp in the clutch.

JM Calma and Arvin Tolentino each scored 16 points for NorthPort, which tied NLEX in third place at 3-1.

Aaron Black put up 18 points, four rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block for Meralco, which dropped to 1-3.
