MANILA--After their meet-up last Asian Games, the 20th-ranked Korea Republic showed their class again as they stormed away with a 3-0 win against the Filipinas on Friday night at the Icheon Sports Complex in South Korea.
The Koreans simply outplayed the former 2023 Women's World Cup debutants as they set 27 shot attempts with eight on target utilizing 67.2% of their overall possession stats compared to Filipinas who launched only four shot attempts with one on target within their almost 33% of their possession.
After their controllable first half, everything was fiery for the Koreans in the last 20 minutes of this friendly game.
Before her goal, Choe Yu-ri had already knocked the Filipinas' defensive doors as she went one-on-one with Olivia McDaniels, but the Filipinas' keeper easily dismantled and saved her attempt to keep it goalless in the 58th minute until she took an opportunity in the 73rd minute.
Choe Yu-ri simply snatched the ball and rolled it on the ground after Jessika Cowart was supposed to pass it to Olivia McDaniels for a safe play. Yu-ri went one-on-one with McDaniels but Yu-ri chose to use her right foot to easily convert her effort to contribute to the 1-0 goal for the Korea Republic.
Three minutes ago, Ji So-yun earned a free kick and the ball went into the net after McDaniels and Filipinas defenders failed to contest the ball, she doubled the lead for the Taeguk Ladies in the 76th minute.
Finally, Jang Sel-gi put a nail in the coffin to seal their win after she rebounded the ball and easily put it into the net to make it 3-0 for the Korea Republic in the 88th minute.
The Taeguk Ladies will cater again to the Filipinas in their 2nd friendly match on Monday.
