MANILA--NorthPort's promising frontline rotation hit a snag after it was confirmed that JM Calma suffered a full ACL tear during their previous game against Ginebra.
As confirmed by coach Bonnie Tan moments before the Batang Pier's PBA Philippine Cup game on Wednesday against the Rain Or Shine Elasto Painters, the bad news was relayed to them after an MRI test was done on the six-foot-six center.
Calma hurt his knee while defending Christian Standhardinger with 6:25 left in the first quarter of the NorthPort-Ginebra game.
He was rushed to the nearest hospital by halftime.
The recovery period after an ACL injury could be as quick as 6-8 months, but the likelihood is that Calma could be out for as long as a full year, which means aside from missing the rest of the conference, he might also miss most of next season.
