TAGUIG - Davao Aguilas UMak unbeaten run continues as they escape another fellow contender in Manila Digger in the 2024 Philippines Football League inside the University of Makati Stadium.

It was reminiscent of Davao's performance in their last fixture when they scored late against Mendiola FC 1991 in their season opener.

This time, it was a first-half goal from Japanese defender Shoma Sato who made the difference for the men in blue and red.

The 24-year-old Japanese newcomer converted a goal from a So Omae free kick, beating the defense and heading the ball past Digger's keeper Yuya Kuriyama in the 28th minute.

Both teams exchanged attempts until the end of the first half, with Davao enjoying a small lead.

Manila Digger had an advantage in the 65th minute when Richard Talaroc was sent off after a hard tackle to Johnmar Barsanilla earned him a straight red card.

However, Digger could not capitalize on their man advantage as Davao's defensive efforts were enough to hold on until the final whistle.

Davao will miss the service of Talaroc in their next game against current cellar-dwellers Manila Montet, while Manila Digger will try to bounce back against Mendiola FC 1991.
