TALISAY, Cebu - Dynamic Herb Cebu FC opens their 2024 Philippines Football League campaign on a high note as they dominate a returning Loyola FC inside Dynamic Herb - Borromeo Sports Complex Saturday.
Cebu's new signings Abou Sy and Zamoranho Ho-a-Tham scored two goals each for the Gentle Giants to open their season accounts.
Loyola and Cebu were in level terms for the first 35 minutes until winger Chima Uzoka found Sy cutting to the right flank, who punished Loyola's transition defense and slotted past Isaac Annan.
The Surinamese newcomer Ho-a-tham speeds from the midfield off, seeing a through pass from Guytho Mijland, and outpacing Loyola's defenders to take the lead at half-time, 2-0.
David Asare's defense on Mijland didn't end up well for Loyola as the Dutchman was tripped inside the six-yard box, with the referee pointing to the penalty spot.
Sy converts from the spot in the 49th minute, giving Cebu a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Ho-a-Tham doubled his tally in the 60th minute, converting a direct free kick from outside the box to give the Gentle Giants their fourth goal of the goal.
Loyola will face a familiar opponent as they will see a retooled Stallion Laguna next Saturday, looking for their first points of the season.
Cebu meanwhile will receive a bye next week and will go back into action on April 20 as they will take on Tuloy FC away in Manila.
