MANILA--The 2024 MAPAMASA Taekwondo Championships, organized by a conglomeration of Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) instructors from the cities of Marikina, Pasig, Mandaluyong, and San Juan, are set to take place on Sunday at Tiendesitas in Pasig starting at 7 a.m.

The one-day event brings together various local jins who will compete in the poomsae and kyorugi events categorized via different age divisions, namely the toddler (8-and-under), grade school (11-and-other), cadet (12-and-under), junior (17-and-under), and senior divisions.

Poomsae, or the sport of forms and patterns, enhances the focus and understanding of the martial art of Taekwondo.

This event will display the tae-geuk form, a basic form or pattern used to simulate a multi-directional attack.

On the other hand, kyorugi, or the sport of sparring and fighting, leans toward the agility and strength of a student and developing self-confidence.

Kyorugi is an official event in all Asian Olympic qualifiers and the Olympic games itself.

All events will be held on 6x6 meter mats that will serve as courts for the tournament.

It is the focus and vision of the 2024 MAPAMASA Taekwondo Championships to highlight the grassroots programs of both public and private schools dedicated to the propagation of the sport.

The 2024 MAPAMASA Taekwondo Championships will be the first leg for the group that has been staging similar events since 2017.
