MANILA--Matt Nieto is staying put with NLEX for two more seasons as he re-signed with the squad.

The Road Warriors announced on Friday that the six-foot-one point guard signed a two-year extension, which means the team's current captain will still be with them for a little longer.

"Siyempre masaya ako na binigyan ako ng extension ng NLEX. Dito na ako lumaki at nag-mature sa team na ‘to," said Nieto, who has been with the team since he was drafted in 2019.

"Nagpapasalamat ako sa tiwala nina President Luigi [Bautista], Gov. Ronald [Dulatre], at sa coaches ko. Talagang mas babawi at susuklian ko yung tiwala nila sa akin."

NLEX made it to the quarterfinals of the ongoing PBA Philippine Cup and even had a shot at earning an easier path to the semifinals before settling for the sixth seed.

Falling short against Meralco after getting swept in the best-of-three quarterfinals, Nieto believes his team will be more motivated to bounce back next season.

“Siyempre mas gutom kami ngayon. Pagtratrabahuan namin itong off-season na ‘to with the goal na mas maganda ang maging standing namin and position next conference,” said the NLEX skipper.

“Step up talaga kaming lahat since mas alam na namin ang bawat role and strength ng bawat isa sa team.”
