Kaya-Iloilo piles 14 goals over winless Manila Montet

MANILA - Defending champions Kaya FC-Iloilo put up a dominant performance as they demolish bottom-dwelling Manila Montet 14-0 Saturday inside the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Kaya rested their key players, including Mark Swainston and Jarvey Gayoso who came off from a spell with the Philippine national team last FIFA international window.

Martini Rey opened the floodgates for the Lions in the 6th minute before Korean reinforcement Lee Do-kyung completed a hat-trick in 22 minutes.

Sherwin Basindanan, Swainston, and Rey added three more to put the score at 7-0 for Kaya before Lee nailed his fourth goal in the 35th minute.

Rey completed his hat-trick for the men in black in thr 39th minute to end the first half at 9-0.

Jovin Bedic started the scoring in the second half from the spot after a Montet player commited a foul inside the box.

Park Yi-young and Rey added two more to put the tally at 12 goals before the 60th minute.

From there, Montet played better defensively, dropping down immediately when Kaya had the ball, holding the champions for 30 minutes until Marwin Angeles scored one for himself in the 90th minute.

Gayoso, who subbed early in the second half for Rey, added one more to his personal tally to give Kaya the 14th goal and himself the 19th goal of the season.

Montet will see themselves against another giant in Dynamic Herb Cebu next week, while Kaya will try to extend their stay at the top of the league against Philippine Army.
