MANILA - The Saturday rain in Manila is as heavy as the Philippine Army's hearts in their match against Maharlika Taguig.
A late Lawrence Baguio goal made the difference between the two sides as Maharlika prevailed in stoppage time inside the Rizal Memorial Stadium, 1-0.
Baguio nailed his screamer from his set piece in the 93rd minute, which went to no one and bounced past John Delariarte's guard.
Both the Philippine Army and Maharlika Taguig tried to outdo each other for the entire regulation but Delariarte and Mamadou Sene went big as they made crucial saves.
Sene made a remarkable save in the first half as a sprinting Jimuel Ariola was denied by the Senegalese by sliding towards the Army striker using both of his feet to clear the ball outside the box.
The Army will next see defending champs Kaya FC Iloilo next week, while Maharlika Taguig will try to build on their momentum against another title contender in Stallion Laguna.
