QUEZON CITY--In a special moment minutes before tip-off in Game 4 of the PBA Philippine Cup Finals, both Meralco and San Miguel warmed up with similar shirts.

As it turned out, it's the league's simple way of showing support to the Filipino athletes heading to the Paris Olympics.

Both teams did their last-minute shootaround with shirts bearing the same statement: "100 Taong Laban Para sa Bayan" celebrating the Philippines' 100th anniversary of competing in the Olympics.

The shirts even bore the names of those who have already qualified for the Paris games led by world number two pole vaulter EJ Obiena, gymnastics world champ Carlos Yulo, and rising pro boxing star Eumir Marcial.

“Suportado ng PBA ang bawat atletang Pilipino at umaasa tayo na kasama natin ang mga fans sa pagsuporta sa mga atleta nating lalaban sa Paris 2024,” said PBA commissioner Willie Marcial.

There is a chance that Gilas Pilipinas, whose core is made up of PBA players, could also make the Paris Olympics if they win the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Riga from July 2-7.

In another pre-game event, 200 cops and soldiers got an opportunity to get up close with their favorite PBA stars as part of the league honoring them this Independence Day for their service to the nation.
