PASAY–Team USA got their second win in the Philippine leg of the VNL after beating Team Germany in 4 sets, 25-23, 21-25, 26-24, 25-23 on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Matt Anderson and Torey De Falco combined for 43 points for the USA, scoring 23 and 20 respectively while Georg Grozer led Germany with 16 points.

With this victory, Team USA’s slim chance to advance to the quarterfinals in Lodz, Poland alive as it ties Cuba, Argentina, and Serbia with 5 wins each.

Team USA’s blocking played key for them as they tallied 10 total blocks against Germany’s 5. The final point of the match was a Jendryk block against Lukas Maase.

Jendryk and David Smith tallied 4 blocks each to lead all players in the blocking department for the match.

For Micah Christenson, winning and putting smiles in front of their fans is always a great feeling.

“I don’t feel the responsibility but I really really want to put on a good performance for the Filipino fans and so to be able to hopefully put some smiles on the faces of the fans after a win is always a good feeling,” Christenson said.

He hopes that Team USA fans will support them on Sunday night as they go against crowd favorites Team Japan in the final match of the Philippine leg at 7:00 p.m.

“For the fans, I hope that we put on a great performance and hopefully we get some USA chants. I know that Japan is gonna be very popular, I think they’re the favorite in the crowd but we love a little bit of support as well, okay?” Christenson further said.
