PASAY--Thirty-nine-year-old volleyball star Gyorgy Grozer played as if he is still in his prime as he lifted Germany past France in the third week of the VNL at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

In their four-set victory on Wednesday, Grozer tallied 21 points, 18 of which came from attacks.

"I am really happy that we win against France, for us it's amazing. For me, it's my first game after a long time... I have mistakes still but we are working on it," Grozer told the media after the match.

Grozer missed the 2023 VNL and only returned to play for the German National Team during the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Rio.

Germany secured the Olympic qualification after an incredible run in the Brazilian city, ending their 12-year drought in Olympic volleyball.

Grozer is using the VNL to get into volleyball shape further ahead of the Paris Olympics, and Germany stunning no less than the host country and defending champion is a huge boost.

"I'm still doing heavy fitness, this is my first game. This is a good time for me to come back into shape until Paris," Grozer continued.

Germany currently sits at the 9th place with a 4-5 win-loss card.

Their remaining matches are against Canada, the USA, and Iran in Week 3 of the VNL here.
